Lockhart State School is a pre-prep to year 12 school. We cater for a diverse student cohort, with students who have cultural ties to communities across Cape York and beyond.
Key offerings at Lockhart State School include:
Curriculum aligned with ACARA.
Regular culture programs, which generally run on Fridays.
Early Years education, with a strong pre-prep program and the "Families First in Early Education" program.
An alternate secondary program, to support students who do not attend boarding school.
In addition, the school has adopted a strong behavioural philosophy, based on respect.
Lockhart State School has a number of support facilities for students, including a new resource centre to provide a better library and enhanced information-communication-technology (ICT) access.
The local community is very friendly and warmly welcomes new teaching staff into their community. Many of the teachers are beginning teachers who have committed themselves to the challenge of living in a very remote community for 2 years. Our NAPLAN data indicates room for improvement in literacy and numeracy. The school is developing an attendance strategy that promotes "everyday counts".
The students of the school are keen learners with considerable sporting and athletic abilities. Hearing impairments and or fluctuating hearing loss impacts significantly on learning for many students. The school has adopted a strong behavioural philosophy, based on respect for self, others and the environment.
